More on YouWriteOn.com

Put 'Man by a tree' and 'The Bethlehem Fiasco' introductions onto YouWriteOn.com to see what that website thinks of them.
On authonomy.com, you have to beg to get people to read your stuff, and there's no guarantee that they read more than 1 sentence. And even after begging they still don't read it.
On YouWriteOn.com, they give reviewers a multiple choice quiz you set. You can cheat at these, but it can be tricky, so it's easier to read all 5000+ words. But you still have to wait for someone to read it...
Still looking for some 'limelight'....

Still looking, still waiting...

Waiting and looking for many things.
Waiting for a review of 'The Rage of Atlantis' to appear on Amazon.co.uk.
Looking for free adverts anywhere on the net, but they all have 'catches'...you need to be distributed by someone or need to pay, etc.
Waiting for more sales of 'The Rage' and especially 'The Trilogy', 3 books for the price of 2.
Looking for a real publisher but they're all closed for submissions or you have to wait 6 months / a year for a chance until they are open.
Waiting for my 5th review on YouWriteOn.com, 8 reviews gets you a ranking on the list...
So, just waiting and looking at the moment...

Keep on plugging

Well, with about 12 views per post on average, but only a few interested parties recently, it seems this blog of creativity is coming to an end.
I've written 3 fiction books, all have great reviews but no editor will pick them up. The publishing houses which are open for submissions are not worth trying, and the 'real' publishing houses can't even guarantee if anyone will look at your book if they were open for submissions.
My friends and acquaintances have been supportive, buying or reading my books, and I've even sold a few books to strangers.
My next step is to be noticed....YouWriteOn.com seems to be like any other 'author/reader' website, with a hitch, I've got 4 reviews, but I need 8 to get rated to try for the Top 5. Reviewing other works by other 'authors', one or two are good, some are okay, but most aren't worth the space they take up on the server.
Still waiting for my 5th review...anyway, IF I get in the Top 5 (which I doubt), then I get reviewed by a BIG editor. Maybe it might help to get some recognition, which is what I need to get my books read!

4th review on YouWriteOn.com - good!

Check it out!!
4th reviewer on YouWriteOn.com!

"I chuckled my way through this text sensing a satirical subtext and hoping it would become more evident. I enjoyed the story. It is zany in the way of Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy and like all zany fantasy demands the suspension of belief. The dialogue is relaxed and the story moves along well. I think this book could do well as a movie and you should think about scripting it for that purpose."

And this is the number of stars given by 4 reviewers...1 to 5. As you can see, my narrative voice and dialogue are strong...maybe I should write my books up as movies!!!!:-) But all 8 are strong, especially the creativity parts of settings, story and themes & ideas!

1st reader thinks it's great!

My first reader of Book 3 is halfway through and they LOVE IT...
"I've started reading your latest book, in fact I'm about half way through - have to keep reading it because I want to see Oediouspelus & Plagamus get their comeuppance. Liked the new department name  - initials IDIOTIC. Can see plenty of digs at modern day politics. A good read."
There ya go, a much better review at the 30,000 words mark than 5,000!

3rd YouWriteOn review - Heinlein + Pratchett

The Rage of Atlantis by DAni J Caile
http://www.youwriteon.com/books/readreview.aspx?bookreviewid=202289

Here it is...it mentions some great things and finally someone picking up on a few things about the genre.
Devolution definition...actually all these deifinitions are good, No.5 is the obvious one, but 1,2 and 3 are good too, and 4 connects to God.
1. A passing down or descent through successive stages of time or a process.
2. Transference, as of rights or qualities, to a successor.
3. Delegation of authority or duties to a subordinate or substitute.
4. A transfer of powers from a central government to local units.
5. Biology Degeneration.

A great paced extract
I really enjoyed reading this extract from a book quite outside my normal reading experience. I revelled in the pace - it came across as exciting, breathless, even crazy, which I guess is the effect you were looking to create. I also much enjoyed the plot, which had interesting interlocking elements. The appearance of God was great. I found myself wanting to read more.

I wonder if the characterisation is a little two-dimensional. This may be an effect of the genre, which I am not too familiar with, but it was not easy to care about any of them. Perhaps the investigator pair will grow into an attractive duet, but a lot of the others felt a little wooden and obvious: the heir-apparents, politicians etc. Maybe this is the effect you are seeking, so as to enhance the pace. It is just worth being sure!

The language was mostly great, and in parts very funny. 'On the other flipper' was a laugh out loud moment. It might be better to avoid so much alliteration and the piling up of adjectives. Both are good to use sparingly, but they become heavy and clunky if used too much, I feel.

You might want to glance at the first long paragraph especially. I found this difficult to grasp, and i am not sure the second sentence works in English. A little later, do you mean devolution or evolution? If you mean the opposite of evolution, it might be better to use another word than devolution, with it's specific meaning.

All in all, I did enjoy this. The blend of Heinlein with Pratchett is demanding but very engaging.

2nd review of Book 3 on YouWriteOn + 1st reader review

Well, the 2nd review wasn't as great as the first, the reviewer wanting Part 1 simplified, and wanting me to make it easier for the reader...I want the reader to think, not sleep.
Anyway, some good points...
"...there’s lots of really good content (ideas) here. Great dialogue too."
"Your writing is good."
But that's it really.
My first chapters are parodies of other writers, this one is Dan Brown. No one gets it.
I say, read the whole book, just enjoy it and all the great ideas embedded in it.
